Eastern Southland West Otago contractor Peter Corcoran Contracting Ltd started in 2001 after purchasing an existing contracting business in the mid 1980s.
Peter Corcoran Contracting Ltd depo and office is at Maitland, 10 minutes north of Gore, and operates in an approximately 50km radius of Maitland. Peter Corcoran Contracting Ltd employs 3-4 full time and 3-4 casual staff during the peak season. The business has had steady growth over the years fuelled by a mix of acquisition and the change in farming practice to more dairying.
In 2019 the business took on change introducing a long serving employee, Mason Cairns, to the company ownership. Mason, who had worked for the business on and off for several seasons and was keen on contracting, has taken the business to the next level with a younger eye connecting with the next generation of farmers and modern technology, for example GPS/Harvest Lab etc.
Peter Corcoran Contracting Ltd conducts many services including silage harvesting from standing to stacked, conventional hay baling, straw hay baleage, farm lane and dairy lane repairs and general cartage of aggregates, which mostly comes from the company's own quarry. It also operates a vacuum tank for cleaning out settling ponds etc.
Peter Corcoran Contracting Ltd tends to focus on silage from October-March then moves into general cartage and lane repairs etc over the rest of the year.
